Jørgen August Nielsen Ejstrup (1908 - 1976)

Biography

Jörgen August Nielsen Ejstrup was born Linderumgaards Mark, Ugilt, Vennebjerg, HJörring, Denmark, 21 May 1908. His parents were (Niels) Christian Nielsen Ejstrup and Anna (Johanne) born Jacobsen. He was the first of 10 children. His parents then both served on the estate 'Linderumgaard', and Anna was only 17 when she was married. When Jörgen's sister Lilly was born 2 years later, the family had moved to Hjörring city where his dad worked for the wholesaler Heerfordt. The next 10 years the family lived at addresses in Hjörring, Christian all the years working with lumber at a lumber yard in the town. When Jörgen's brother Frode was born they had moved to a smallholding at Aagaards Hede, Bindslev, Horns, Hjörring. They had some land, not much, and a few animals, but Christian had to cut peat as well, while Anna took care of house, land, animals and the growing number of children. Already at the age of 12 Jörgen moved to Vidstrup, Vennebjerg, Hjörring, to serve on the smallholding of Christian's brother (Jörgen) Peder Nielsen Ejstrup, who 1932 became the 'sognefoged' (parish executive officer) of Vidstrup. Peder had owned the smallholding of Christian and Anna in the beginning, with them as 'indsiddere' (renting the farm). Peder had no children himself. Formally he was a bachelor, but at least from 1925 he had a house keeper, Christiane Christensen, whom he later married. 1925 Jörgen had left Peder's farm to serve at some other place. April 1928 emigrated to Canada, probably together with a cousin, Jens Henriksen. However Jens did'nt leave Liverpool for Quebec together with Jörgen, but waited for next year. The destination of Jörgen was C.N.R. Winnipeg, Manitoba.
