William ELLARD[1] was born in St George in The East in London in abt 1848, parents Edward and Mary ELLARD and can be found living there in the 1851 England Census.
He emigrated to Australia with his family in abt 1854, age 6. The barque Pestonjee Bomanjee, 596 tons, Captain J. Montgomery, sailed from Southampton on 18th June 1854 and arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia on 7th October 1854. Edward Ellard travelled with his family, and ships records he is listed as Edward, 44, Shoemaker 463/2 St. George in the east, Middlesex , his wife Mary 42, children Maria 14, Thomas 12 Maria 8, William 6 and Margaret 1.
William married Anna Mary SYKES on 17 Aug 1892 at North Adelaide. He and Anna had 11 children. Frank and Hubert and 5 others by 1890 and 4 more after 1890 (Biography of SA). He practiced the occupation of Bootmaker, Manufacturer and was of the methodist faith.
After abt 1892 he lived at Allen's Creek, Mount Gambier, South Australia, Australia having previously resided in Adelaide.
