Lucy B. Cotten, born May 15, 1908 to Phoebe and Wright Ellis in Dallas County, passed away in Chariton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chariton on May 3, 2005.
On December 20, 1923, she married Dudley R. Cotten, to this union , eight children were born, Marvine Holloway, Grovetown, GA, Phyllis (Phil) Messamer, Russell, Betty Cotten, George (Norma), Charles (Bernie), Chariton, Naomi (Jay) Chandler, Chariton, Dean (Pinky), Earlham, and Mary Jane (Ted) Coppock, West Des Moines. She has 29 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 15 3/4 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to being a homemaker, she was also a nurse's aide at the Chapler-Osborn Hospital. She loved to garden, can and freeze the produce. She took pride in the variety of Iris flowers that she grew. She could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to family and friends in time of need.
She was preceded in death by her paents, her husband, Dudley; daughters, Betty and Phyllis; son, George; two grandchildren; and her half brother, Fay Macy.
