Lord Elliss is a Military Veteran. Served in the British Army 1914-1918 during the Great War.
Early Years
Lord John Joseph Elliss was born on 26 August 1897, his birth registered between Oct-Dec 1897 at Bromley, Kent, England.[1][2] He was the son of Thomas Elliss and Elizabeth Rebecca Halfpenny.

In the 1901 census of Bromley, Kent, Lord, aged 3, was living at Havelock Road with his father Thomas (46), mother Elizabeth (46), and siblings Thomas W (24), Albert F (22), Elizabeth R J (19), Harriet R M (18), Annie M E (16), Morris F (15), Edith M A (13), Benjamin J E (12), Louise F J (8), Sidney H (7), Lord J J (3), and Therese V (0).[3]
In the 1911 census of Bromley, Kent, Lord was attending school, age 13, living with his father Thomas (57), mother Elizabeth (57), and siblings Amy (26), Morris (25), Edith (23), Benjamin (22), Louisa (19), and Phoebe (10).[4]
Military Service
On 26 August 1914 Lord undertook a medical examination to determine his fitness for enlistment into the army for service in The Great War (WWI). This was the date of his 17th birthday. Records show that he declared himself to be 19 years old. His date of enlistment was 31 August 1914 when he was enlisted into the Royal Field Artillery. His Regiment Number: 16682.[5]
His age was then recorded as 19 years, 5 days. His occupation was given as Carman. The Short Service Attestation form was amended by hand, recording that his service was for 3 years with the Colours.[6]

In 1937 Lord applied for a copy of his army discharge as he had lost the original, the copy needed to enable him to get government employment. At that time he was living at 5 Morams Cottages, Harvey Lane, Bromley, Kent.
After The Great War
In the 1921 census of Bromley, Kent, Lord was age 23, a Wood Machinist, and living at 22 Mosslea Road, Bromley Common, with his father Thomas (67), mother Elizabeth Rebecca (67), and siblings Benjamin James (32) and Phoebe Violet (23).[9]
First Marriage
Lord J J Elliss married Doris E Ives, their marriage registered between Jul-Sep 1923 at Bromley, Kent.[10]

Second Marriage
Lord J J Elliss married Florence E Andrews, their marriage registered between Jan-Mar 1944 at Hull, Yorkshire.[11] There were no children from his second marriage.
In December 1953 Lord was employed as a cleaner with the UK Postal Service at Bromley & Beckenham, Kent.[12]
Death
Lord died on 10 April 1979, aged 81, when he was living at 15 Elizabeth Court, Theale, Reading, Berkshire. His death was registered between Apr-Jun 1979 at Reading & Wokingham, Berkshire, with his birth date stated as 26 August 1897.[2] His Probate recorded:
