Elizabeth (Halfpenny) Elliss was born in Surrey, England.

Early Years

Elizabeth Rebecca Halfpenny was born on 22 Jan 1855, her birth registered between Jan-Mar 1955 at St. George Southwark, London, England.^[1] Elizabeth was baptised on 6 December 1857 at St. Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, Surrey. She was the daughter of William Halfpenny and Harriet Eleanor Carter.^[2]

Elizabeth was the eldest of eight children born to William and Harriet:

Both of Elizabeth's parents died during 1871 and subsequently she lived with her grandparents, Samuel Halfpenny and Elizabeth Norris.

In the 1871 census of Bermondsey, Surrey, Elizabeth was age 16 and living with her grandfather Samuel (62), a Tanner, and her grandmother Elizabeth (64), uncle George (24), and siblings, George (8), Samuel (5) and James (1).^[3]

Marriage

Elizabeth married Thomas Elliss on 16 August 1875 at Saint Paul, Deptford, Kent.^[4]

In the 1901 census of Bromley, Kent, Elizabeth was age 46, living at Havelock Road with her husband Thomas (46), Gardener Jobbing, and children Thomas W (24), Albert F (22), Elizabeth R J (19), Harriet R M (18), Annie M E (16), Morris F (15), Edith M A (13), Benjamin J (12), Louise F J (8), Sidney H (7), Lord J J (3), and Therese V (0).^[7]

In the 1911 census of Bromley, Kent, Elizabeth was age 57 and living at 1 Mosslea Road, Bromley, with her husband Thomas (57), Jobbing Gardener, and children Amy (26), Morris (25), Edith (23), Benjamin (22), Louisa (19), Lord (13), and Phoebe (10).^[8]

In the 1921 census of Bromley, Kent, Elizabeth was age 67 and living at 22 Mosslea Road, Bromley,with her husband Thomas (67), Gardener, and their children Benjamin James (32), Phoebe Violet (20), and Lord John (23).^[9]

In the 1939 Register, Elizabeth (born 22 Jan 55), Unpaid Domestic Duties, was living at 22 Mosslea Road, Bromley, Kent, with her husband Thomas (born 18 Feb 55), occupation Nil, Blind. The entry for a third household member is redacted, officially closed, presumably as the person was still living when the record was published.^[10]

Death

Elizabeth died about 1941, aged 86, her death registered between Jan-Mar 1941 at Bromley, Kent.^[11]
