Private Atwater Ellsworth served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: 1864 Mustered out: 6 Dec, 1865 Side: USA Regiment(s): Michigan 4th Volunteer Infantry
When the American Civil War broke out, Atwater Ellsworth registered, at the age of 20, registering in Michigan's 1st Congressional District.[3] He later enlisted, enlisting as a Private in Company F of the Michigan 4th Infantry, the 2nd organization of that unit.[4] The Fourth Michigan Infantry, originally organized in Adrian, Michigan on June 20, 1861, was mustered out and reorganized under orders of July 26, 1864 and mustered into Federal service as a regiment on October 14, 1864. On May 26, 1866.[5] Atwater Ellsworth contracted, and died from, dysentery, passing away in San Antonio, Texas on December 6, 1865.[6]
He is buried at San Antonio National Cemetery.[7][8][9]
