Biography

From The Family of Thomas Elwell of Hardwick, Massachusetts:

Thomas Elwell, son of Joshua and Abigail (Riggs) Elwell, was born at Gloucester, Mass., 18 Aug 1718. His grandfather Isaac was a son of Robert, the immigrant ancestor of the family.

Soon after his marriage to Lucy Pierce in 1740, he removed to Dudley, where, together with Robert Campbell (who married Mary Pierce), he leased lands and buildings for a term of seven years from 15 Apr 1743. He sold his share of this lease 16 Aug 1748 to Mr. Campbell, and 21 Dec 1750 bought lands in Kingsfield (now Palmer), where he still resided 25 Jan 1752; 17 Sep 1753 he bought lands in Quabin (now Greenwich), and was residing there 1 Jan 1755; on 2 May 1758 he bought land lying in Greenwich and Hardwick, and thereafter was a citizen of Harciwick until his death 27 Jan 1798.
