Biography

The citing of Patrick Byrne and Mary Elwood as the parents of John Byrne came from the death certificate of their son, John Byrne. This death certificate information was provided by John Byrne's eldest child, Mary Frances Byrne. The death certificate for John’s sister, Mary Byrne Hunt, cites the same Patrick Byrne and Mary Elwood as her parents. There is a Thomas Ellwood on the US Census for 1870 and 1900 for Trempealeau County. It seems possible that this Thomas could be a relative of Mary Elwood, the mother of John Byrne (b.1835), perhaps a brother. Since Thomas had settled in Trempealeau County before 1870, his presence there may have drawn the Hunts and the Byrnes to come there also. Mary was born about 1810. Mary Elwood ... She passed away about 1860.[1]
