[3]Northern Star Lismore, NSW Wed 18 Jul 1883 Page 2 Death of Mr. William English'
It is our sad duty to have to record the death of the above gentleman, who died this (Wednesday) morning at his residence, Wilson's Creek, near Lismore, at 3a.m. Mr. English was an old resident of this district, having come to Lismore about 12 years ago from Jamberoo, in the southern coast district. He was a man of great ability, and always took a leading, active, and intelligent part in every public matter affecting the progress of the district. Before coming to Lismore he had been an Alderman of the Borough of Kiama for some years, and as he had much experience in Council matters, and was a thorough believer in Municipal Government, he was one of the first to advocate the establishment of a Municipality in Lismore, and it will be in the recollection of many of our readers that, five years ago, when this town was about to be incorporated, Mr. English was the chief mover in arranging the preliminaries. Mr. English had been ailing for some time, and for some months had been unable to leave his room. He was born near. Cashel in the County of Tipperary, Ireland, and, when young, emigrated to Australia, with his parents. He was 53 years of age, at the time of his death, and leaves, a widow and family of grown-up sons and daughters, to whom we tender our sincere sympathy in their sad bereavement. The funeral will take place to-morrow (Thursday), and we understand the following are the arrangements. The remains will be brought to Saint Carthage's Church, at 11 o'clock, where a Requiem Mass will be celebrated, and the funeral will afterwards proceed to the Catholic Cemetery.
