The son of James H. Ennis and Elizabeth I. Pierce, Isaac married Melissa Glasgow on 26 Feb 1870 in Morgan County, Indiana. (Marriage registration dated 21 Feb 1871.)

According to his 1917 Missouri death certificate, Isaac was a day laborer. He was a widower at the time of his death.

He died at St. Louis City Hospital of pneumonia. He was buried on 16 Mar 1917 at Old St. Marcus Cemetery.
