Biography

Louis was born in 1886 and he was the son of Aaron Epstein and Brainy Sandolow. ^[1] Birth date confirmed in Naturalization record from 1912. ^[2]

He married Stella Shkolnik in February of 1909.

Louis Epstein, born 12 January 1886 in Gomel, Russia, immigrated to the United States in May of 1906. He applied for citizenship in June of 1910, filed in Nov. 1912. Named on that petition are his wife Stella and son Leo, born 12 January 1910 in New York. His petition was granted in March of 1913. ^[2]

In 1918, Louis was working as a painter and decorator for a firm on Broadway Ave. and living with wife Stella on East 173 St. BX, New York, which is probably the Bronx. This information is contained on his World War I draft registration. ^[3]

The 1930 U.S. Census in the Bronx, New York showed Louis with Stella, and offspring: Leo (20), Emmaline (16) and Rose (11).
