My paternal great grandfather John William "Willie" Estes was born in DeKalb County, Georgia in 1849. His mother died in the early 1850s and in the 1860 census, he was living with his grandparents, the Reaves Family, in Alabama. He was a 12 year old when the Civil War started and may have fought as a child soldier. In 1874 he married Dora Blalock in Monroe County, Mississippi and by 1880 Dora and Willie were raising a family just south of Tupelo, Mississippi. He moved with his family to northwest Arkansas in the 1880s and passed there in 1915.
