Mary moved with Hopewell to Lawrence County, Alabama about 1821. (A deed filed that year in Edgecombe County, North Carolina gave Hopewell’s location as Lawrence County, Alabama.) She appeared as head-of-household in Lawrence County in 1830, with three children.
Mary arrived in Texas with her children by 31 Dec 1839 [1]and received a 640 acre Headright grant based on that date and her status as head-of-household. Her survey was made in Liberty County, adjoining the survey of her son Joseph R Adams. In 1847 she sold her grant to Matthew Cartwright. The property was originally in Liberty County, then in Sabine County, but by 1847 it was in San Augustine County, due to changes in county formation.
In 1850, she is living with her son Joseph’s family in San Augustine County. No record of her has been located after that date.
