Biography

Matilda was born in 1893. She is the daughter of David Evans and Hannah Preece. ^[1] She married Edward James Robinson in 1925 ^[2] She passed away in 1986 ^[3] Can you add any information on Matilda Evans? Memory of Vaughan Niven I knew Matilda Ellen Robinson, nee Evans, as Aunty Nellie. She was technically my Grandmother's Mary Ellen Niven aunty but was only 3 years older than her. Aunty Nellie and Uncle Ted lived in a small flat roofed cottage in Church Street, Riverton. My Grandfather, Frank Price, had a crib (small holiday home) in Riverton and we would stay there over school and Christmas holidays through the 1960's. We used to go visit aunty Nellie fairly regularly. She was always pleased to see us and put on snacks, biscuits, pikelets, scones and the like for us. My recollection of Uncle Ted is that he was a quiet reserved man, he spent a lot of time in his toolshed/workshop. I recall he was a keen trout fisherman. Nellie sold the Riverton place after Ted died and moved to Invercargill. I last saw her in 1978, shortly before I left Invercargill, when she asked me to help her sort some old papers that belonged to Ted. She was a lovely lady.
