Biography

James Everett was born in 1836 in Brentwood, Essex, England to William Everett and Mary (Walker) Everett. He was christened on 2 Oct 1836 in Brentwood.[1]

In 1841 James Everet (age 4) lived at Back Street in South Weald, Essex with his father William (36), mother Mary (35), and four brothers: William (10), George (8), Newman (8), and John (0).[2]

In 1851 James Everett (age 13, Errand Boy) lived at Love Lane in South Weald with his widowed mother Mary (44, Laundress) and four siblings: Newman (18, Labourer), John (9), Ann (7), and Sarah (5).[3]

James Everett married Sarah Elizabeth Redknap in 1855. The marriage was registered in Stepney, London in the last quarter of the year.[4]

James and Sarah had eight children:

  2. Mary Ann Everett (1858-)
  3. Lucy Everett (1860-)
  4. George Joseph Everett (1863-)
  5. Edward John Everett (1866-1933)
  6. Frederick Everett (1868-)

Another daughter, Edith Annie Everett (1865-), was listed on this profile, but no records have been located to confirm that she was their daughter.

In 1861 James Everett (age 24, messenger) lived in Sidney St, Mile End Old Town, Middlesex with his wife Sarah (26) and three children: James (5), Mary (3), Lucy (12mths); as well as aunt Elizabeth Argent (87) (probably Sarah's grandmother's sister), lodger Rebecca Wilson (38) and her daughters Mary (5) and Alice (5 mths).[5]

In 1871 James Everett (age 34, Clerk) lived in Stratford Bow St Mary, Middlesex with his wife Sarah (36) and five children: James H (15, Clerk), Mary A (13, Scholar), George J (8, Scholar), Edward J (4), and Frederick (2), as well as servant Mary E Baily (17, Domestic Servant).[6]

In 1881 James Everett (age 44, Clerk Colonial) lived at Earlham Grove in West Ham, Essex with his wife Sarah E (47) and four sons: George (18, Clerk Wholesale Grocer), Edward (14, Scholar), Frederick (12, Scholar), and Charles H (7, Scholar), as well as four visitors: Alice Redknap (9, Scholar), James Everett (25, Clerk Tea Dealer), Annie Everett (22), and Kate Everett (0).[7]

James' wife Sarah Elizabeth Hannah Everett passed away in 1885.

James was in a relationship with Florence Susannah Harvey (nee Snape) from at least 1889 - they lived as husband and wife but no marriage record has been located.

James and Florence had two sons:

  1. Sydney Ernest Harvey Everett (1889-)
  2. Percy Victor Harvey Everett (1890-1891)

In 1891 James Everett (age 51 [~54], Bankers Clerk) lived at Earlham Grove in West Ham with his wife Florence (37), three sons: Sydney H (2), Percy V H (1), and Charles H (17), "niece" [stepdaughter] Minnie V Harvey (5), and servant Alice Snow (18, General Servant).[8]

James' wife Florence Susannah Everett passed away in 1895.

James Everett passed away on 30 Jan 1896, aged 59 years. His death was registered in West Ham in the first quarter of the year.[9]

"EVERETT James of 4 Cross-street West-ham-lane Stratford Essex died 30 January 1896 Adminstration London 20 March to James Herne Everett commercial clerk Effects £117 18s."[10]
