Biography

Albert’s Military Service records[1] show that he served in Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts during the South African War and was discharged in 1902 after 204 days of service. He was once again called up in 1918 for Military Service as part of the Ballot. At this time he was a self employed clothing merchant and was living at 13 Gear Street, Petone.

The details he supplied for this enlistment state that his father was born in England and his mother was born in Halifax, Canada. He also stated that he was born on the 24th May 1880, married 28th December 1908 and his daughter was born in 1913.

It appeared that Albert died without leaving a will. When his wife, Urania, applied for administration of his estate, it was necessary to complete an affidavit[2] in which she stated that Albert was born in Kumara. She also stated that she herself was born in Nelson and, as he had not been married previously, was his sole lawful wife. Mention was also made that Rhea was their only child.

DEATHS[3]
EVISON. —On November 7, 1945, at his residence, Jackson St., Petone, Albert Edward, dearly-beloved husband of Katie Evison, and father of Rhea; aged 65 years.
