Mary Ewan was born around 1809 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She is the daughter of Charles Ewan and Mary (Sheriffs) Ewan. ^[1]

Mary was a convict transported to Tasmania aboard the ‘Garland Grove (1)’ in 1841. She was convicted of culpable homicide of her 4 day old child.

The Garland Grove (1) departed from London on the 23rd of July 1841.

Convict records describe Mary as, a farm servant, height 5 feet 2, hair reddish and eyes grey. ^[2]

In 1844 Mary Ewan married convict James Heath at Campbell Town, Tasmania, Australia. ^{[3] [4]}

Research Notes

I believe this is Mary’s death but they don’t have her correct age. Mary is definitely dead by 1860, as stated on Jane Heath’s orphanage records.
