"While his father was in the Civil War, at the age of twelve he began work in a lumber mill and continued for three years. He saved enough money to go to Coshocton High School for two years, and then taught in Coshocton County, O., for two years. He went to Illinois and taught for two years, then attended Illinois State Normal Univ. two years. He was a teacher for fifty-four years. One son, and an adopted daughter."
