Harold Walter Fairfax was born in 1871 at Sydney, New South Wales (Australia). He was the fourth son of James Fairfax and Lucy Armstrong.
He was educated at the Sydney Grammar School. Later he graduated at Balliol College, Oxford. He was called to the Bar, at the Inner Temple, and was afterwards—in 1893—admitted to the Bar of New South Wales.
Harold married Elsie Cape, daughter of A J Cape.
He purchased a property near Young and successfully grew wheat and farmed sheep. His philanthropic interests included the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children.
He passed away on 15th January 1913 at Sydney from acute tetanus.
