Hampton Bynam was born in 1828. He was the son of James Fancher and Elizabeth Carlock. He passed away in 1909.
According to his obituary, "when the war broke out between the states, Mr. Fancher raised a company of state troops and was in the Battle of Oak-Hills. When the state troops were disbanded, he enlisted in the Confederat army, where he remained until the close of the war." [1]
His obituary states that Hamp "lived on the old homestead at Osage for many years after the war, moving to near Lead-hill, in Boone County, where he lived until a few years ago he moved to Berryville." [1]
Hamp's obituary notes that his funeral was attended by Dick Fancher, who was identified as a former slave of Hamp's father and who had been raised alongside Hamp. [1]
