Biography
His birth details are unclear and subject to some conjecture:
One pedigree suggests he was the son of John and Rachel Fenton, born 24 December 1800 but caution would be warranted as there were a number of Charles Fentons born in Warwickshire between 1796 and 1800.[1]. He married May 6, 1833 in New Norfolk, Tasmania, Australia [2]Another pedigree lists his birth as 1796 and this seems to be based on his age at death in 1880 being given as 84, this pedigree also gives his occupation "Ironfounder's Labourer"[3] The later pedigree includes a biography listing him as a convict who came out on the Arab. "Convict: Sentenced to Life transportation at Warwick Assizes, Midland Court, ENG, on 30 MAR 1822. Convicted of burglary of the house of Peter Boskek and stealing goods worth 10.8.0. His gaol report was unknown, although the hulk report was orderly. Arrived Hobart Town 6 NOV. 1822 per "Arab"" [4]and gives his "Cause of death: Fatty degeneration of the heart and bronchitis".[5] This convict received a conditional pardon 27th February 1838 and a full pardon 3 August 1843.
