William was born in 1848.[1] William Thomas George Finn married Jane Balhanna Hatfield in 1868.[2] He passed away in 1923.[3]
William may have been the son of Samuel Finn, and moved to Pitchi Ritchi with his father in 1858 at the age of 13.[4]
Or he may have travelled to South Australia on the 'General Hewitt' in 1858 (aged 3 or 11 depending on source), sponsored by his cousins the Taylors; following the death of his father Nathanial in 1852.[5] [His name does not appear in the passenger list for the General Hewitt on The Ships List website.]
William and Jane's marriage certificate names his father as Nathaniel, and states that both were 21 (born around 1847). He may have travelled to South Australia with his mother and sister on the 'Lilydale', arriving Feb 3 1857. His uncle James Dodd Finn is also reported to have travelled on the 'Lilydale'.[6] His cousin Mary Ann Finn (daughter of James Dodd Finn) married William Taylor in 1865. William is listed as a passenger of the 'Lilly Dale' on the Passengers in History website, however so is his father who died 4 years before the ship sailed.[7]
