In 1861 his parents Samuel and Elizabeth Fisher are running the Londesborough Arms in Cranswick, a big pub just off the main road from Beverley to Driffield and on to Bridlington and Scarborough. The three oldest children are helping to run the pub, while the younger five are at school, though this seems a bit doubtful in the case of Lucy, just 8 months old. It also seems unlikely that Edward aged almost 10 would be allowed much playtime while the pub was busy and he could be keeping the place clean and tidy. [3]
