FISHACRE alias FISACRE/FYSACRE FAMILY, HEIRS OF MORLEIGH FAMILY OF CO. DEVON

The Fishacre family of Morleigh descend from Peter, the second son of Martin II Fishacre [living 1228-1250] of Combe Fishacre, co. Devon. The family bore the arms of “Sable, six fishes haurient or, three, two and one”. William the eldest son [living 1261-1273], was to inherit Combe whilst Peter was to inherit Morleigh and Grimeston from their mother, the daughter and heir of William Morleigh [living 1230-1253]. Whilst William was educated as a knight, Peter was to pursue the education typical of a second son of the times, and became an attorney appointed as a commissioner of oyer and terminer on four occasions 1291/2. The marriages of his daughter Isabel to Richard II Hydon and grand daughter to Margaret to Joyce Dinham no doubt had influence on his career.

"The Note Book of Tristram Risdon 1608-1628". Transcribed and edited from the original manuscript in the library of the dean and chapter of Exeter by James Dallas F.L.S. and Henry G. Porter, 1897. Available online courtesy of Google Books. Though this work compares favourably to numerous entries in the Calendar Rolls, British History Online and other reliable references, it should never be used as a primary reference. The editors noted that the armoury recorded by Risdon was compared to manuscripts held at the British Museum, the consistency of those recorded along with additional information years of a person living makes Risdon a reliable secondary source of research.
