The Right Honourable Maurice Fitzgerald, 18th Knight of Kerry, was born on the 29th December 1772 to Robert Fitzgerald, 17th Knight of Kerry, and Catherine Sandes (daughter of Lancelot Sandes).
Sir Maurice Fitzgerald was elected to Parliament as M.P for County Kerry (1801-1831). He was appointed Vice-Treasurer of Ireland in 1830, and Lord of the Admiralty in December 1834.
On the 5th of November 1801 Maurice married Maria La Touche (daughter of David La Touche) ; they had six sons and four daughters. Maria La Touche died in 1829. Secondly, Maurice married Cecilia Maria, widow of George Knight.
Maurice Fitzgerald died on the 7th March 1849, and was believed to be the last surviving member of the Irish parliament. Maurice Fitzgerald's eldest surviving son, Peter Fitzgerald, succeeded him as the 19th knight of Kerry.
