Disputed Origins

No sources have been found to show that Rachel Unknown was the of William Fletcher, or the mother of Seth and his sister, Hope Fletcher. Quality sources show that William's spouse's name was unknown. She has been detached from this profile as Seth's mother.

Biography

Seth Fletcher, son of WIlliam Fletcher and an unknown mother, was born in England. He married first about 1652, perhaps in Hampton, New Hampshire, to Mary Pendleton, daughter of Major Bryan Pendleton.[1]

Another source reports that Rev. Seth Fletcher, who began his ministry at Elizabethtown, New Jersey in 1680, was from Concord, Massachusetts a son of Robert Fletcher who died 3 April 1677 aged 85. His 1st wife at 1655 was Mary Pendleton daughter of Major B Pendleton, at this time Fletcher was minister at Wells, Maine. Rev. Fletcher died August 1682. Rev. Fletcher's 2nd wife at May 1681 was widow Mary of Henry Pierson Pierson-117 History of Elizabeth, New Jersey [2]

According to Wikipedia, the marriage location given, Cumberland, Maine, was not its own town until 1821.

Edited to add ... See Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire, part 2, 234. 10. Rev. Seth [Fetcher]. Reports about his ministry, including "...Hampton, where he was teaching 1652-4 ... " Continues, "By Sep. of that yr., he was in Wells engaged to preach for one yr." And also, "... was in Southampton, . I., in Oct. 1677 ...."

Also reports he was of Elizabethtown at the time of the marriage contact with Mary Pearson; contract date as 30 May 1681.
