Biography

Eli Folsom Sr. was born on September 2, 1799, to Stephen Folsom and Abigail (Fifield) Folsom of Tunbridge, Vermont.[1][2]

Eli was a school teacher and farmer.[2]

He married Amanda Knox on September 29, 1825, in Tunbridge, Vermont.[2] The couple had several known children, including:

  1. Franklin (1826-1857)
  2. Silence Amanda (1828-1865), m. Amos Mathews (1828-1909)
  3. David Knox (1830-1893)
  4. Martin Robbins (1832-1905), m. Cornelia Barber (1834-1911)
  5. Henry Clay (1834-1909), m. 31 Jul 1867, Sarah Jane Winn (1838-1917)
  6. George Weymouth (1836-1886), m. 1864, Abigail Brewster (1844-1879)
  7. Carlos (1838-1853)
  8. Emma Jane (1840-1923), m. Rufus Washburn (1822-1908)
  9. Eli Jr. (1843-1847)

The first three children were born in Tunbridge, Vermont, where Eli and Amanda were living in 1830.[3] The rest were born in Canton, New York, where Eli and Amanda moved in about 1831.[4]

Eli Sr. passed away on August 8, 1843, in Canton, New York. He is buried in Old Canton Cemetery, Canton, St. Lawrence County, New York, USA[5]
