James Foote was born in 1828 in Frampton by Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom. He was the third and youngest son of Joseph Foote and Elizabeth Clarke.
Following the death in 1848 of his father, the family migrated to the Moreton Bay District, Colony of New South Wales (since 1859, Queensland, and since 1901, Australia) aboard the Emigrant, arriving in Brisbane on 8th August 1850. They survived the typhus epidemic aboard the ship during the voyage. He was listed as being a farm labourer. [1]
