Private James (Forrester) Forester served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: March 4, 1862 Side: CSA Regiment(s): 42nd Regiment, Georgia Infantry
James was born about 1823. He is the son of George Forrester and Lucreasy Braswell. He first married Martha Mayfield on December 15, 1844 in Walton County, Georgia.[1] James and Martha had the following five children together:[2][3]

Martha Jane
After Martha died around 1857, James married Mary Ann Jane Odum on April 1, 1858 in Walton County, Georgia.[4] They had the following children together[5][6]:

Lula F.
James died on December 10, 1883. He is buried in Alcovy Cemetery next to the family plot of Mary Ann Jane's brother Richard[7] near Bold Springs, Georgia.
Civil War Service
Like many of the young men of Walton County, he joined the service in the Confederate States of America. He enlisted on March 4, 1862 in Monroe, Georgia as a private in Company G of the 42nd Georgia Infantry. He fought in the battles that the 42nd fought. Most notably, he was at the siege at Vicksburg, Mississippi in July of 1863. The last record of him is a clothing receipt on October 4, 1864.[8]
