Biography
Mary Jane was born in 1852, daughter of butcher William Woolsey (see also Sawyer and Harrald families, all butchers) and Jane Lee.
She married watchmaker/jeweller Harry Woolsey in 1879 and had several children (8?), some of whom emigrated to Canada with their father.
She passed away in 1909.
According to a note on Ancestry by relative Shirley Law:
Our G.Grandfather, William Henry Woolsey came to Canada with Edith, Florence & William in May 1905 then went back to England where Mary Jane was. She died in June 1909 and then he came back to Canada with Grace, & Dorothea in 1910, and possibly Fred as well. Albert & Edwin stayed in England, I think they were probably married by then.
Descendant Arlene Stafford-Wilson writes that Mary Jane Foster and her husband owned two butcher shops in Huddersfield, England. He was a jeweler by trade, but after their marriage in 1879, he switched from jewellery to the butcher trade for many years. Mary Jane's family operated the Foster butcher shops, which were well-established over generations.
