On 30 January of 1889 in Jackson County, Indiana, Sarah marriedHenry Howard Payne (born in August of 1851 in Jackson; son of John Davidson Payne (1827–1902) and Eliza Jane (Hamilton) Payne (1833–1901)) .^{[2] [3] [4] [5]} Their children were:

• Thomas Abraham Payne (19 January 1891 – 15 October 1967)
• Christian David Payne (13 April 1894 – 21 October 1927)
• Julia Irene Payne (17 October 1902 – 23 June 1954)
