Goodman was born about 1781 in South Carolina.[1][2]
Goodman Franklin appears on the 1800 census of Edgefield County, South Carolina with the following household members:
He is listed in the 1828 Tax List for Monroe County, Georgia in Captain Wright's District as owning and being taxed on 202 1/2 acres, Lot #33 in District 14 of Monroe County, Georgia, adjoining lands of Anthony Corzart and 202 1/2 acres, Lot #33 in District 9 in Muscogee County, Georgia and 202 1/2 acres, Lot #222 in District 11 in Dooley County, Georgia; and for 3 polls, paying $2.10 in taxes that year.[4] He later sold the District 14 Monroe County, Georgia lot to one Owen J. Willis.[5]
He then appears on the 1830 census of Monroe County, Georgia with the following household members:
He is still living in Russell County in 1850 and appears with wife Mary on the census there.[2] In addition he has six slaves listed on the 1850 slave census for Russell County, Alabama.[8]
He married Mary[9] and the couple had the following known children:
Goodman died sometime after 03 Apr 1860, the date of the census that year[1] and before 15 Nov 1860, the date his son Osborn R. Franklin, applied in court for letters of administration on his father's estate.[10][11] His widow Mary, relinquished her right to administer his estate in November, recommending their son, Osborn R. Franklin, as Administrator.[12] Osborn returned an inventory of Goodman Franklin's estate to the Coosa County, Alabama Court on 26 Nov 1860.[12] The estate sale account was filed in Feb 1861 in Coosa County Court.[13]
His widow Mary wrote her will in Coosa County, Alabama on 03 Jul 1861.[9]
