Biography

Frederick represented a mixed team at the Olympic Games

Sir Frederick Maitland Freake, 3rd baronet, was a British Army officer and polo player. He competed at the 1900 Olympics in Paris for the BLO Polo Club Rugby polo team which came second place. He competed again, this time for Great Britain, at the London Olympics of 1908, again receiving a silver medal.

He was born on 7 March 1876 in Botley, Hampshire. He was the second and only surviving son of Sir Thomas G Freake, 2nd baronet, and Frederica, the daughter of Col Frederick T Maitland, of Holywyck, Kent.[1][2][3][4][5]

He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge.[1]

In 1920 he succeeded his father as 3rd Baronet Freake of Cromwell House and Fulwell Park, established 1882 in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. He was thereafter addressed as Sir Frederick Freake.

He died in 1950, aged 74.[6] A death notice in the Times recorded:

FREAKE.—On Dec, 22. 1950, at Todenham, Moreton-in-Marsh, Glos, Frederick Maitland Freake, Baronet, aged 74.[7]
