Joseph was born February 8, 1838, the son of Nicolas Fredette and Marie Esther Hebert. He was baptised on Febraury 9, 1838 at Eglise St-Jean-Baptiste, Rouville, Quebec, Canada [1].
He married Rose Dufresne in about 1859 [2] . Together they had 11 children. He passed away on 01 Oct 1926 and is buried in Alpena, Michigan[3].
