Theophilus Freeman is a part of US Black heritage.
Theophilus D. Freeman was born about 1823[1] Fitzwilliam[2], New Hampshire or Massachusetts[3]. He served with the famous 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War.
1863: South Brookfield, Massachusetts (military enlistment)[1]
1860: North Brookfield, Massachusetts with the Ayers (Baxter, Pricilla and Charles), the Babbits (Charles, Adelaide, George and Emma), and Marshall Doane[3]
During the Civil War, he served as a Private in Company F of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry of the Union Army, the second[5] regiment in the United States made up entirely of enlisted men of color. He was about 40 years old, married and working as a barber when he enlisted on 3 December 1863 from South Brookfield, Massachusetts. He mustered out with his regiment on 20 August 1865.[1]

On September 7, 1891, Theophilus D Freeman died at the age of 68 in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was born about 1823 in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire to Amos Freeman and Amy Humphrey.[7]
