Biography Funeral Bulletin - June 10, 2000

Julian Day Freeman was born March 24, 1903 in Washington, D.C. He grew up on Georgia Avenue across from the Corby Bakery (later Wonder Bread). His first job was sweeping out the bread trucks. At an early age he worked at the soda fountain at Koss Pharmacy at 7th and Florida Avenue NW.

He graduated from Central High School and went to George Washington University to study pharmacy. He was a pharmacist for 60 years, first at Koss Pharmacy, then 25 years in his own one-man store in the Center Market, and finally at Grubbs Pharmacy until his retirement in 1984. He was proud of three generations of pharmacists, as his son, John, and granddaughter, Carrie, have followed in that profession.

Mr. Freeman sold tickets for the baseball and football games at Griffith Stadium and RFK.

In 1929 Julian married Rosalie Jones in Poolesville, Maryland and they were married 65 years. They had two children, Virginia and John. He loved his four grandchildren and often traveled to visit them.

He had been in a nursing home for nearly 10 years, but always enjoyed hearing about the family, including his four great-grandsons.

His family is grateful for all the tender loving care given him by the staff of the Althea Woodland Nursing Home.
