Biography
Avice tragically died at the age of 21, 21 days (Sept. 27, 1927)after giving birth to her twins. The cause of her death was a blood clot that formed during her post-partum doctor-enforced bed rest period. As a result, her twins were raised by their maternal grandparents, Georgia Meredith (Sparkman) Freer & her husband, Charles Albert Freer.
The twins father, Elmer Rexford Shobert, remarried around 1931, when Charles and his sister, Sarah, were 4 years old. However Elmer did not reclaim the two twins from his first marriage. This supposition is based on the fact that in the 1940 Census, Elmer's household includes a new wife and a 9 year old child, but no sign of the two twins, Sarah or Charles, who would have been 12 years old by this time.
