Biography

Benjamin French was born in 1776[1] in Washington County, New York, to David French and Susanna Blair.[citation needed]

In 1798, he married Charlotte Miller in Barnet, Vermont.[2] It is not particularly close to the border with Washington County, New York -- in fact it is on the border with New Hampshire. Perhaps her family had moved there or perhaps she was not really born in Washington County at all.

They had several children, many of whom have yet to be formally documented here:[3][citation needed]

  • David French, b. abt. 1800
  • Anne French, b. abt. 1802
  • Jane French, b. abt. 1804
  • John Argyle French, b. abt. 1806
  • Susannah French, b. abt. 1808
  • Benjamin French, b. abt. 1810
  • William French, b. abt. 1813[4]
  • Solomon French, b. abt. 1816
  • Mary Ann French, b. abt. 1820[4]
  • Margaret French, b. 1821[4]
  • Elizabeth French, b. abt. 1823
  • Charlotte French, b. abt. 1829

By 1830, the family had moved from the Argyle and Salem area to Putnam, New York.[5]

Charlotte, his wife, died in 1851.[6], and Benjamin died in 1857. They are buried together in Putnam United Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
