Peter Frantz aka Peter French, (anglicized name), was born about 1770. He married Rosanna Ruhl/Rule who was born in Germany about 1773. She was the daughter of George Frederick Rule (1745-1823) and perhaps Rosanna Shipley. They resided in Botetourt County, Virginia and apparently had at least six children there before relocating to Knox County, Tennessee in 1815. Peter died September 3, 1849 and was buried at New Salem United Methodist Cemetery, Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. The gravemarker he shares with Rosanna lies between two crude stones and bears the inscription: “Beneath These Field Stones Rest the First Person Interred in this Cemetery”. The marker shows their names “Peter French (Frantz) and Rosanna Rule (Ruhl)”.
