Mildred “Milly” French is the daughter of John Elson French and Dolly Spencer-French. She was born circa 1785 in Virginia she died May 20, 1860 in Clinton, De Witt, Illinois, USA.

Mildred French came from a family of thirteen siblings. Only Mildred and six of her siblings lived to adulthood. Mildred’s surving siblings were three sisters, Elizabeth, Sally and Martha, and three brothers John Elson Jr. Daniel and Littleberry.

Mildred, Elizabeth, Sally, Martha, John and Daniel’s names are listed on a refile of their parents will. (Littleberry had already passed away by then.)

Mildred married twice. Her first husband was Peter Terry Murphy. Her husband Peter Murphy appears to have died in Adair County sometime after 1820 (he`s on the 1820 census). Mildred's second husband was named Solomon Cross

Later Mildred and her children moved to DeWitt County IL, with her father, mother, and her sister, Martha French who had married Levi Spencer in Adair Co in 1824.

Mildred later married Solomon Cross who was the widower of Betsy Geloton. Mildred and Solomon had no children.
