When John Mathias Freund was born on September 7, 1845, in Germany, his father, Peter, was 30 and his mother, Katharina, was 29.[1] He married Louisa Hilt in 1881. They had nine children in 16 years. He died on February 13, 1926, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, at the age of 80, and was buried there.[2]
