Biography

Gertrude was born in 1909, her birth registered at Warracknabeal, Victoria. She is the daughter of Thomas Fry and Florence Hamlyn. ^[1]

In 1927, in Victoria, she married Edward Strutton Sayer. ^[2]

Gertrude passed away 15th December, 1946, aged 39, leaving Edward with three children: Leonard Royce, Ronald Edward, and Lorraine Ann. Her death was registered at Horsham, confirming her birthplace as Warracknabeal, and naming her parents as Thomas Giles Fry and Emily Florence Hamlin. ^[3]

OBITUARY
SAYER.--Following an illness extending over the last few months, the death occured at the Horsham Base Hospital on Sunday of Mrs. Gertrude Rosina Sayer, wife of Mr. Edward S. Sayer, of McLachlan Street. The late Mrs. Sayer, who was born at Warracknabeal 39 years ago, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Giles, and was married at Horsham at the age of 19 years. She is survived by her husband and a family of three, Leonard Royce, Ronald Edward and Lorraine Ann. For many years the late Mrs Sayer had resided with her husband and family at Haven where she was highly respected, although, she did not take an active part in the public affairs. Despite the fact that she did not enjoy the best of health, her passing came as a shock to her many friends. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, leaving St. John's Church of England for the Horsham Cemetary. The Rev. Canon N. S. Fettell conducted the services at both the Church and the grave side. The coffin bearers were Messrs D. Hardingham, T. Hunter, D. Landrigan, J. Cox, D. Cox and O. Flight. The funeral arrangements were carrIed out by L. Hutchesson and Son. ^[4]

SAYER.—In the report of the death of Mrs Gertrude Rosina Sayer, the name of her parents was given as Mr and Mrs Thomas Giles. This should have read, Mr and Mrs Thomas Giles Fry. ^[5]
