William Willis Fry was born in Southwark, Surrey in 1833 and christened on 11 December. He was the youngest child of seven born to Thomas Fry, a painter-stained and liveryman, and Susannah Wright.

His mother Susannah died as a result of an accident when he was just one.
In 1851 the census places him as a 17 year old apprentice in the household of Thomas Westwood, a linen draper, in Southwark.[2]
William married Emma Washbourne in 1857.

He is recorded as a bachelor and she, a spinster and a minor.
He married Kate Robinson in 1868. [4] He is described as a widower. He was 32; she was 25. Katherine was born in Mildenhall, Suffolk. [5]
Their daughter Florence Louise was born in 1870.
In the 1871 census, William and Katherine were living in Penge, Surrey, with their one year old daughter, Florence. William’s occupation is listed as Grocer’s Shopman. [6]
Florence died in 1873 aged three.
He married Annie Page in 1885. [7]
It was his third marriage. He is again described as a widower. He was 48; she was 26.
William died in 1911, aged 77. He is buried in the Brookwood cemetery in Surrey.[8]
