Biography

Elias was born in 1852. He is the son of John Fry and Margaret Harris. ^[1]

Elias was born in 1852. He was crippled by an Erisipelas infection in early childhood and was lame the remainder of his life. As a young man, he farmed and drove a huckster wagon selling dry goods. Elias married Alpharetta Palmer on 3 June 1875 in Johnson, Iowa.^[2]

He and his wife, Alpharetta, built a store in Frytown and later sold it to move to Wellman, where they built a house and went into business with Alpharetta's brother, Aaron L Palmer. They had one son, who died in infancy and four daughters. Elias was baptized in the Church of Christ at Frytown as a teenager. Politically, he was a democrat. He passed away as a result of stomach cancer in 1908 and is buried in the Wellman Cemetery. ^[3] His tombstone also lists Alpharetta Palmer (1856-1940) as his wife. ^[4]
