Georg Funk was born in Neuruppin.

Since their first son is listed as born in Prussia and age 17 in 1880 US census, author assumes Carl is actually born from a prior marriage of Marie Sophie Heiden and that Georg Johann marries Sophia Dorothee Elisabeth (Heine) Funk around 1870 in Illinois and adopts Carl. Georg had 3 children identified in the 1880 census:

Notes

They were men of faith and conviction. Some were German immigrants who had come to the United States to preserve their Lutheran confession of the faith, free from government intervention. They were stirred for mission, especially to reach German immigrants, and, for some, the desire to bring the Gospel to Native Americans.

Although the 1880 U.S. census has Georg from Saxony, Germany, ^[6] there have not been any baptismal records found of a Georg/Johann Funk in Saxony. Given the names and dates on the Neuruppin record are consistent with family records and US census records, the censor may have transcribed Sophia place of birth as his and his place of birth as hers.

Name is incorrectly listed as John George Franks in death record, however, date and cemetary, age and occupation are correct
