Gallagher was born on January 10, 1819, in Rae Milton, Donegal, Ireland. ^{[1] [2]}He married on January 24, 1843 Elizabeth Swan in Prince William, New Brunswick, Canada. ^{[1] [3][4]} Elizabeth Swan was born on April 6, 1827 in Cumbecladie, Ireland. They had 15 children in 28 years. He died on January 20, 1888, in York, New Brunswick, Canada, at the age of 69, and was buried in Stanley, New Brunswick, Canada.^[5][6]
