Biography
Peter Gregory Gallop is Notable.
Peter Gallop was born in Harbinger, Currituck County, North Carolina, in 1843. Peter was the son of Benjamin Gallin Gallop and Director Hall Gregory Gallop both of North Carolina.
Peter married Caroline Daniels in about 1864. Peter and Caroline were the parents of 9 documented children.
According to findagrave, Peter was a census taker for the 1870 US Census for Dare County, North Carolina. Later Peter's occupation was listed as a lighthouse keeper. Peter was the assistant keeper at the Roanoke Island Marshes Lighthouse from 1873-1874.
Peter later became the main Lighthouse keeper on Bodie Island from 1874-1878, later transferring to the Buoy Depot in Washington, North Carolina in 1906.
It is said Peter Gallop was buried in the Gallop Family Cemetery in Wanchese, North Carolina. Later Peter and his wife, Caroline were both moved to the Cutworth Cemetery in Wanchese, Dare County. Peter was 78 when he passed away in 1921, in Nags Head, North Carolina.
