Biography of Lucy Elizabetha GANTZER STEIGER

Lucy Elizabetha "Lucy" Gantzer was born on February 23, 1888 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York, the daughter of John Philip Gantzer and his wife Julia Schauf.

Lucy Elizabetha "Lucy" Gantzer was baptized on March 22,1888 at St. Peters Evangelical and Reformed Church in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. Her baptismal sponsors are Louis Ganser or Gantzer and his wife Elizabetha Unknown Gantzer.

Lucy Elizabetha "Lucy" Gantzer had three older siblings.

1. Elizabetha Julia Gantzer, who was born October 12, 1880, who died young, probably in 1887 shortly before Lucy was born.
2. Mary Rose Mamie Gantzer was born August 26, 1882,
3. John Adam Johnnie Gantzer was born in January 1884.

3. Charles W. Kellermann, born March 19, 1899, who married Bernadine Kellermann on August 15, 1922 in Sacred Heart RC Roman Catholic Church in Buffalo, Erie County, New York.

Lucy Elizabetha "Lucy" Gantzer lost both her mother Julia Schauf Gantzer Kellermann and her step-father August Kellermann in 1912. Her mother died May 19, 1912, and her step-dad on September 29, 1912. She was 24 years old at the time of their deaths.

Lucy Elizabetha "Lucy" Gantzer married Charles Theobald Steiger on June 4, 1919, after World War I, at the Children's Aid Society in Buffalo, New York, where she worked as a cook. They lived at 724 Jefferson for about seven years and then bought their home at 210 Newburgh Avenue, Buffalo, New York.

Lucy Elizabetha "Lucy" Gantzer Steiger and Charles Steiger had three sons:

1. Robert Charles Edwin Steiger
2. Norman Carl Steiger
3. Charles Edward "Chuck" Steiger, who married and had children

Louise Elizabeth "Lucy" Gantzer's youngest brother Charles W. Kellermann and his family would visit Aunt Lucy and her husband Uncle Charles Steiger on Sunday afternoons so the adults could play cards, and the children could play with their cousins. Aunt Lucy was very sweet.

Louise Elizabeth "Lucy" Gantzer Steiger passed away on August 29, 1967 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. She is buried in Holy Rest Cemetery in Cheektowaga, Erie County, New York, with her husband Charles who followed her to heaven two years later.
