Biography

James was a son of James Henry Gardner and Ethel Peterson. He married Alice Louise Hammond in 1948. James passed away in 2007.

Services for James Henry Gardner Jr., a Greenwood native, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home.
Mr. Gardner, 87, died of heart failure on Tuesday, Oct. 30 2007, at Ocala Regional Hospital in Ocala, Fla.
Mr. Gardner attended Greenwood Public Schools and graduated from Delta State University in 1947. He was a veteran, having served in World War II with the United States Army. He owned Mary Bell's Flower Shop for 25 years. He was a past president of the Greenwood Lions Club. Mr. Gardner was a charter member of North Greenwood Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon.
Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife Alice Hammond Gardner of Dunnellon, Fla.; his son James H. Gardner and wife Susan of Titusville, Fla.; and his brother William S. Gardner.
Visitation will be at noon Friday at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home.
Bob Hatzfeld will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be George Flanagan, Tom Flanagan, Trey Evans, George Kuykendall, Daryl Holland, W.S. Gardner Jr., Robert Hammond and Richard Avant.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.[1]
