Will 1761 in Northampton, Va. Will Southampton, Va. March 14, 1771. Benjamin Franklin wrote in his Autobiography that cheap land became available in Carolina in 1730. Linda Harris says Amos Garris III was married to Comfort Sharp then sister Elizabeth Sharp. Margaretsville is a very old town. This Section was one of the first settled in what is now Northampton County, North Carolina. The early settlers came across Fountains Creek from Virginia. The town got its name from the first person to keep post office, Miss Margaret Jordan. It was the first post office to be made a money order office in the county. One of the first academies in the state was located near Margaretsville. It is supposed to have been located in what is known as Diamond Grove. Margaretsville is the only town in the County in which a President has stopped, President Buchannan, for a few minutes in 1858. He stopped shook hands with a lot of people and complimented our girls, admiring their beauty. Margaretsville has furnished our county with some of its leaders and best men.

4. Amos Garris III Amos Garris was born in 1702, the third generation to live on the Garris farm in Northampton County, Virginia, oldest son and child of Elizabeth and Amos Garris. He had two younger brothers, Thomas and John, and two younger sisters, Elizabeth and Martha.

Amos would have been raised and died Church of England, the only viable option for an English subject, and his family probably attended services at nearby Hungars Creek Church. The church had been built by May 1636 and has one of the first recorded cemeteries of English origin in the new colony. This picture is of a second church, which is the one he would have attended, built on the same site, 9 July 1679. This church is still in use today as an Episcopal church.

In his mother’s 1709 will (she died in 1719), Amos inherited “on hend [one hand] mill and frame and one good pewter dish and plate and one midel ware chest to my son Amos Garris.” Also, “and I also too give 5 head of cattle bred in the 6 sows to raise amongst my five children till the least of them shall come to the yrs of 18 and then to go shared amongst them equally with my well beloved freind, Essau Garris and Richard Garris….” He would have inherited his farm when his father died that year.

It is believed that Amos first married Comfort Sharp, and when she died, married her sister.

Amos married Elizabeth Sharp around 1729 and began to raise his family. Together they had six children: four sons and two daughters.

Between1761 and his death in 1771, Amos moved with some of his sons to Isle of Wight and then to Southampton County, Virginia, which may have been part of the land grant of John as part of the farm does extend into Virginia. Warrosquyoake Shire, one of the 8 shire divisions of Virginia, was renamed Isle of Wight County in 1637. In 1749, the portion of Isle of Wight County west of the Blackwater River became Southampton County.

Unless one of the profiles is a "project-protected profile" (PPP), all profile managers of both profiles remain a manager of the resulting merged profile. If one of the profiles is PPP, only the managers on the protected profile remain as managers; the non-PPP profile managers remain on the trusted list but are not automatically added as a manager of the resulting merged profile. Since neither of these profiles is a project-protected profile (or even a project-managed profile), that's not something you need to worry about. You and the two PMs of Garris-49 will be managers of the merged profile (which will be Garris-49, since it is the lower number).
